The Rotary Club of
Leominster

Chartered 1925
Meeting Minutes 06/29/2020

HOUSEKEEPING
  • Our guest speaker was Richard Marchand
  • We will not have a meeting on July 6th in honor of the 4th of July holiday.
Membership Update
  • Rick Marchand will apply for membership. Joe Kiarie's membership was terminated due to lack of attendance.
General Topics
  • Charlie has tried several methods to contact Rye & Thyme with no luck. He will reach out to their Worcester counterparts. All our Rotary materials are there and we need to get them back.
  • We requested 1,500 masks and will receive at least 500. Claire will take 50 and distribute them to hospitals and other front line workers, and will put small Rotary labels on each (if the labels will stick).
  • Frank is working on revising our tri-fold brochure. Please forward any group activity pictures to him for consideration.
  • Johnny has 41 plaques for our flower boxes. We came in under budget at about $750 for the new signs. Beautiful work!
  • Louise showed us a before-and-after video of pics from the Washington Square beautification project. Nice job everyone! The benches are next on the list to receive updating.
  • The Rotary International convention is over, and Zoom videos are posted for viewing.
  • Starburst Festival will happen and is scheduled for 8/22
  • The Johnny Appleseed Festival is a GO for 9/26

Guest Speaker
Rick Marchand, Former City Councillor

Rick has been with Rotary since 1992, and founded the DARE Project in Leominster. We are honored that he wants to join our Club.

Rick's latest endeavor is working as a Project Manager with AIS, on the "sewthemasks.com" project. The goal of this project is to make 1MM masks, and distribute them throughout the country. There are currently 500 people sewing masks across 38 states. The target is to increase this to 1,000 people across all 50 states.

Corporate donations are gladly accepted, with the minimum requested amount of $4,400 - this will cover 1,000 masks.

Rotary can help by promoting the project, and by suggesting who needs mask donations.

Thanks, Rick, for the good work you are doing!
